Vernard “Pop’” Furman was born in Bryan County on August 7, 1957 to the late Robert & Mary Frances Furman. On February 16, 2023 after a brief illness, Vernard was called to eternal rest. He was proceeded in death by his parents and two brothers Greg Furman and Robert (Peter) Furman.
Vernard attended Bryan County Schools. He enjoyed a long career of commercial truck driving. After more than forty years in the trucking industry, Vernard retired from Express Packaging. In addition to truck driving, Vernard enjoyed auto mechanics and repairs. He was loved and well known in the local community and throughout his route which included South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. Vernard never met a stranger. His love for life, family and laughter coupled with his giving heart never went unnoticed by all that knew him. His generosity and willingness to help without expected reciprocation was remarkable and will be missed by many.
Vernard leaves to cherish his memory, a loving devoted wife of more than fifty years. Mrs. Corrine Furman. He leaves warm memories to those who love and call him Papa; Jordan, Jaleisa, Jailah, Jevonte, Jamon, Curtis Jr., Javan, Miya, Nevaeh, Nasia, Ariyona, Bryce, Lorenzo, Desha, Chakeez; great-grandchildren, Austin, Jordan Jr., Jakobi, Janorea, Lauren, Lorenzo Jr., Kingston, Legend, Chance and Jernard; two brothers Tony (Pamela) Furman of Hagan, GA and Ralph (Sharon) Furman of Metter GA; sisters Courtney (Robbie) Wright of Savannah GA and Bessie (Al) Walker of Vidalia, GA; his uncle Will (WJ) James of Miami, FL, and his aunt Carolyn Green of Hagan, GA; seven sisters-in-law, five brothers-in-law, a devoted brother & sister-in-law, Roosevelt and Izetta Palmer; a special niece Elonda Parker. A devoted friend, Mr. Frank Habersham of Savannah, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews, and relatives.
