Sarah Williams Obituary

With profound sadness yet grateful hearts, we celebrate the beautiful life and legacy of Mrs. Sarah Slater Williams (“Lil Gal”), a loving soul and devoted woman of God, who entered into eternal rest on April 26, 2025, at the blessed age of 92.

Sarah was a radiant gift from God, a precious blessing born to the late Grady Slater and Sarah Elizabeth McClain Slater-Badger on May 9, 1932. She lived a life marked by unwavering faith, fierce courage, and boundless love. Sarah feared nothing in this world, for her heart was anchored in the promises of Christ.

Awaiting her in Heaven are her beloved husband, Henry Williams; her cherished children, Erma Renee Scott and Clarence Hogue II; her dear sisters, Evelyn Bacon, Melrose Jackson, and Flossie Norman; and her treasured brothers, Felton Slater, James Turner Slater, and Moses Badger, along with her devoted parents.

Sarah received her early education in Tattnall County at Glennville Junior High School, where she shined not only academically but also athletically, embracing her love for basketball. From a young age, she accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior, joining the Green Cypress Baptist Church, where her faith flourished and became the cornerstone of her life.

Sarah’s work ethic was a testament to her strength, determination, and professionalism. Throughout her lifetime, she was gainfully employed as a seamstress at Claxton Manufacturing Company, a certified technician at MetroGlass, and a dedicated food service worker within the New Jersey Public School System. She also served proudly as a member of the Eastern Star Statesboro Chapter, living a life of service, fellowship, and grace.

A woman of exceptional warmth, humor, and hospitality, Sarah was a light in the lives of all who knew her. Her famous Cream Cheese Pound Cake graced many tables, bringing family and friends together in joy and celebration. She loved attending church whenever possible and remained a steadfast example of faith and kindness.

Sarah’s Love, Life, and Legacy will be forever cherished by her loving children: Burnell Williams (Yvonne) of West Orange, NJ; Ouida Williams of Newark, NJ; Carolyn Dunson (Rodney) of Chester, VA; Tawanna Washington (Aujour) of Columbia, SC. and stepson Larry McKever of Claxton, GA. She leaves behind her adored grandchildren: Burnell Williams Jr. of West Orange, NJ; Amina Douge' (Reggie) Greenboro. NC; Shanika Simmons Eason (Petrick) of Claxton, GA; Dewayne Scott, Jr. Newark, NJ, Princess Ebony Sophavandy (Andrien) of Alexandria, VA; Rodney V. Dunson II of Raleigh, NC; Candes Williams of Claxton, GA; David Aviles of Augusta, GA; and Aujour Washington II of Columbia, SC.

She is lovingly remembered by her dear siblings: Annie G. Badger; Jenel Hayward (Roy) of Claxton, GA; Ernest R. Badger of Dale City, CA; Willie E. Badger (Gloria) of Sacramento, CA; Ernestine Badger-Henderson; and Katherine Sapp of Oakland, CA; along with her sisters-in-law, Lilly Mae Slater of Stone Mountain, GA, and Neomi Slater of Claxton, GA.

Sarah’s memory will be treasured by a host of great-great great grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and countless friends whose lives were enriched by her love, wisdom, laughter, and strength.

Her vibrant spirit, magnetic smile, and heartfelt kindness will live on in each life she touched. Though we mourn her passing, we rejoice in knowing she is now resting in the arms of her Savior, where there is no more pain, no more sorrow, only peace everlasting.

“Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
