Life of Rufus “Stiffy” Brown, Jr.
On June 17, 1948, in Evans County, GA Rufus Brown, Jr. was born to the late Mr. Rufus Brown, Sr. and Mrs. Catherine Brown. On August 9, 2024, he departed his life to eternal rest at Ogeechee Hospice, Statesboro, GA after a long illness.
Rufus Jr. was a very hard-working devoted and loving husband, father, papa, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and dear friend. He was a generous and kindhearted man who loved his family dearly. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Mildred Brown on April 3, 1971. Together, they have three children, Cornelius Adam Brown Sr., Anterria Brown, and Aaliyah Brown. He was proceeded in death by his dad Rufus Brown Sr., mother Catherine Brown, two brothers Earnest and Artis Brown, and one sister Ada Slater.
Rufus Jr. graduated from Evans County High School in June 1968 where he played on the football team. After high school, Rufus Jr. served in the United States Army in the Vietnam Era for 2 ½ years. He obtained his certification in Auto Mechanic from the Division of Vocational Technical Adult Education, Dade County, Florida. He worked as Dade County Transit Supervisor in Miami, FL for thirty plus years where he retired in 2008. After retiring, he returned home to reside in Georgia. He was an active member of Historic Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, Claxton, GA. He served as a faithful member and member of the male choir until his failing health.
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife of 53 years Mildred Brown, three children, Cornelius Adam Brown Sr. of Conyers, GA, Anterria and Aaliyah Brown both of Cobbtown, GA; two grandchildren, Cornelius Adam Brown Jr. of Port Wentworth, GA and Tyquae Denson of Charlotte, NC; one great- grandchild Cornelius Adam Brown, III of Port Wentworth, GA.
Rufus Jr. was also survived by his sisters Evelyn Robinson of Daisy, GA, Donna (Marvin) Burrough of Atlanta, GA, Dahogany Wesby of Miami, FL; one brother Stanley (Abby) Brown of Atlanta, GA; mother-in-law Willie Jane McCrae of Vidalia, GA, and one brother-in-law Walter Slater of Glennville, GA; seven sisters-in-law, Mary Alice Brown of Collins, GA, Vivian (Charlie) Mutcherson of Pembroke, GA, Mae Doyle of Reidsville, GA, Lou (Jimmie) Brooks of McDonough, GA, Carol Brewton of Hinesville, GA, Lou Thompson of Statesboro, GA and Doris Lambert of Fort Lauderdale, FL; four Aunts Rosetta Burgess, Clara V. Brewton, and Loretta Brewton both of Daisy, GA, and Prophetess Lillie W. Brewton of Claxton, GA; one uncle Felton Brewton, Sr. of Daisy, GA. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
