Reflections of Life
Roosevelt Jones Jr. the son of the late Annie Bernice Jones and Roosevelt Jones Sr. was born on August 3, 1939 in Claxton, GA. He went home to be with the Lord on January 27, 2021 and was preceded in death by his daughter Marenda Jones.
Roosevelt was educated in the Evans County school system after his family move to Elizabeth, NJ, where he attended
Thomas Edison Vocational High School and graduated with a mechanic degree. He worked at Koplin Pontiac for seven years and at Drew Chevrolet for twenty years. Roosevelt then went to work for Island Ford Co. of Staten Island, NY in 1987. He was an entrepreneur and very business minded. He owned a shop in Jersey City by the name “Beat’em All” and a trucking business name “Jones Trucking” and lastly Cotton Top Bar and Grill. Once he retired from Island Ford in 2001, he relocated back to Glennville, GA. He started to work for Brent Walker as a mechanic and the Long County School System as a bus driver until his health started to slow down.
Roosevelt accepted the Lord at an early age and joined St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church of Daisy, GA under the leadership of Rev. T. J. Leach & Rev. Newson serving as an usher. After returning from New Jersey, he joined Green Cypress Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. H. W. Miller.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories with his wife Helen R. Jones of Glennville, GA; five daughters Gwendalina Jones, Sonia Jones both of Glennville, GA, Joanne Andrews of Rahway, NJ, Helen V. Brewton (Barry) of Sutherland, VA, Joneessa Jones-Payne (Kenneth) of News, VA; two sons Abdul-Qadir Bin Muhammad of Glennville, GA and Curtis Jones (Tonda) of Somerset, NJ; two sisters Ruby McRae (late Thomas) of Reidsville, GA and Donna T. Harris (Andy) of Glennville, GA; two brothers Kenny Jones (Barbara) and Jan Jones both of Glennville, GA. He leaves 13 grandchildren,12 great-grandchildren, God–son Michael Williams Jr. and special granddaughters Alicia and Takeeyah Jones. A host of nieces, nephews’ other relatives and friends.
