Roosevelt (Pole Cat) Ponder

Roosevelt Ponder (Pole Cat) was born on March 25, 1956, to the late Ollie Freeman Ponder and Elmer Ponder in Evans County (Claxton, GA).  Roosevelt was a 1974 graduate of Claxton High School. He was very smart and humorous. Early in lift, he married Shirley Kight Ponder of 43 years. He was employed several years at the Claxton Bakery and ended his working career at the Department of Correction (Roger State Prison) of 17 years. After Roosevelt retired, he spent most of his time fishing, cooking, playing video games, making others laugh simply by just being himself and watching those Dallas Cowboys win or lose. Preceded him in death his parents, brother Elmer “Joe” Ponder Jr. and sister-in-law Florence Wiggins.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving wife Shirley K. Ponder, three daughters Sarah Ann Vail (Allen) of Jesup GA, Katara Ponder Hines and Renee Kight both  of Claxton, GA; one son Roosevelt Decoreon Ponder of Claxton, GA, two sisters Mary Alice Golden (John) of Claxton, GA, and Debra Stanly (James) of Savannah, GA; three brothers Edward Ponder Sr. (Renee) of Savannah, GA, Gregory Ponder (Caina) of  Alma, GA and Kelvin Ponder of Claxton, GA; three sisters-in-law Mary (Larry) Jenkins, Shelia Kight and Sebrina Chung; two brother-in-law Alphozo Wiggins and Edward (Donna) Kight Jr.; seven grandkids, thirteen  great grands, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives
