Dea. Donald DuPont has joined the love of his life of 50 years, Versie DuPont, in eternal rest. DuPont was a born leader and risk taker. He was a veteran who worked as a civil servant until he "retired" to pursue his entrepreneurial interest's full time.
Community service is another hallmark for DuPont. He was a faithful supporter of the Evans County High School Alumni Association. He served several years as the National President as well as President of the Savannah Connection. He also served as Membership Chair and Ebony Fashion Fair Chair of the Savannah Chapter of Savannah State University National Alumni Association for many years. The Alumni honored him with an Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
DuPont was a member of St. John Baptist Church (Claxton, GA) and later moved his family membership to St. John Baptist Church (Savannah) where Matthew Southall Brown, Sr. was the Pastor. He served on the Deacon Board, Married Couples Ministry and was a pioneer who started the church video ministry. DuPont served as the President of the Usher Board for many years and later, he was elected as President of the Usher Association consisting of a conglomerate of Baptist Churches. DuPont later moved his membership to the Historic Mount Pleasant in Claxton where the Rev. Dickerson is Pastor. He continued his service with the Deacon Board and Usher Ministry.
DuPont was a visionary, passionate, man's man who met life on his own terms. He entered into God's rest on March 27th. He leaves to mourn children who cherish his memory, Donald (Chrishna) DuPont, Versonya M. DuPont, Dwayne (Micaela) DuPont; grandchildren, Jordan DuPont, Chandler DuPont Gabriel DuPont, Caleb DuPont, Asher DuPont; siblings, Henry J. DuPont, Eugene Lawson, Gladys Cox; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He also leaves to mourn his bonus son, Tyson Brown. DuPont loved his family and taught us how to pray, how to serve and how to make things happen! He will be missed.
